ota configuration

Since mobile phone applications have become more and more advanced, the importance of OTA configuration has increased.

CM Technology’s over-the-air (OTA) device management enables mobile phone users, M(V)NOs or MVNEs to make changes to the software setup or configuration of a mobile phone, by pushing a configuration update to the device via a wireless link. Online, the setting details can also be retrieved on demand.

OTA via binary SMS optimizes the configuration data updates in handsets. It enables the distribution of new software updates to mobile phones or provisioning handsets with the necessary settings to access services such as mobile internet or MMS.

In the cases:

• when activating a SIM card for the first time by the end-user;
• when activating a SIM card for the first time in another GSM device (changing IMEI);
• on request;

the M(V)NO or MVNE will send to CM Technology:

• IMEI;
• MSISDN;
• M(V)NO id code.

CM Technology will use the IMEI database (containing all current phone models and most of older phone models) and check whether the end-user has a data enabled phone. If so, data will be sent via OTA; based on the IMEI code and M(V)NO id code, CM Technology will send data settings of the relevant M(V)NO to the MSISDN by binary SMS message(s).
